Real simple - either play Kane with Toews and don't move him or get a legit second line center for him to play alongside.

If Kane really wants a trophy or trophies for Patrick Kane and is going to hold the team hostage I'm of the mind to ship him out to the highest bidder. If being on a winning team isn't more important than individual awards, trade him somewhere else.

I can see that. Kane wanting a Hart trophy or a Richard. Always good to have goals and be hungry. But Kane willing to take 8.7 instead of 9.2 so the Hawks can get such a center? Is there such a center that's Q compatible? What if Blackhawk management HONESTLY thinks that center is Teuvo Terravainen?

In the end, my guess is Patrick Kane signs and TT winds up being his center. But you're absolutely right JJ, there are some fascinating angles at play.

I concur but what in Q's history would lead you to believe that simple is any kind of solution.

I think Kane would be happy to have someone who doesn't skate at a snail's pace.

I started saying that at the beginning of last year and people have been calling me an idiot for thinking that he wouldn't be a "team player" and blah blah.

The best players have a drive to be the best and also want the hardware to go with it regardless of what they say in an interview. And there is nothing to say he cant be a team player and want to be successful individually.

Been quite the good soldier so far and was HEAVILY leaned on this off season and even during the regular season when they were dragging ass. Taking what he was dragging around into account for most of the season is darn impressive.

Until July its gonna be one day at a time... just happy to be here... good lord willing things will work out

When God tried to point a finger in the direction that the Hawks might follow in getting Kane a center it is clear He had Spezza in mind.

Spezza has a unique contract. It is $7m in cap but only $4m salary. It means Ottawa can retain 1/2 the cap value and the hit for the Hawks would only be $3.5m. It would give the Hawks a chance to do cap friendly deals with Toews, Kane and Spezza. He wants a cup he will sign a fair deal as will Kane. It also provides the opportunity for the Hawks to resolve their cap stress.

Unlikely it will happen. Ottawa would want Saad. Just don't see the Hawks moving on that part of a deal.

While this isn't related to Kane, I still would like to see something worked out for a Leddy-schenn trade. Don't know what it would take but schenn would be great here.

Agreed but if Kane is holding the Hawks feet to the fire then Bowman needs to figure out how to make it work.

I don't really blame Q on this one.

Agreed. I think a bonified 2nd line pivot solidifies the lines and potentially less line juggling. NOT!!!

My sentiments exactly! If true, ship him out. Who need that kind of selfishness. He's a great player but that kind of attitude is a cancer to a team back to my celebrating.

I don't think he's a cancer to the team at all. I don't have a problem with a player asking/demanding things especially when they've earned that right.

Whoa whoa whoa ....Kane is not a cancer .

It is a legitimate beef to want to play with a real center night in and night out. Look what he has accomplished with Zus and Shaw as his centers. Kane and everyone else sees that the Hawks can aquired a real top.6 center by moving picks and an asset or two. Its not an unreasonable request on his part . Especially if he is going to sign in the 8.0-8.5 mi range for 8 more years.

Confusing part again: if Ottawa - a budget team, not a cap team - retains half the cap hit, don't they also gave to pay half the salary ($2MM)?

It depends on who the Sabres get in this draft and next. If Florida does what everyone thinks they will do and take Ekblad, then the Sabres should be drafting Sam Reinhart. They are also a legitimate contender in the "Connor McDavid Sweepstakes". If they get one or both of those, Kane would most likely have that dynamic center (eventually) that he could win those trophies with. It's far from a sure thing, but the Sabres are going to have ridiculously high draft picks for a few years. Odds are they'll land someone Kane can play with.
